Video: Bryant Still Trying to Revive HB 1523
JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) –Mississippi’s Governor hasn’t given up on making House Bill 1523 state law.
Governor Phil Bryant filed notice Thursday saying he will ask the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals to overturn a lower court decision blocking the law, which would allow some businesses and government employees to cite religious beliefs to deny services to same sex couples.
U.S. District Judge Carlton Reeves blocked the law from taking effect July first saying it violated the Constitution by establishing preferred beliefs, and fostering unequal treatment for gay, lesbian, and transgender citizens.
