LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – From feeding the local geese, to biking around the camp grounds, and even water skiing on the lake… Lake Lowndes State Park certainly has something for everyone of every age!

Mark McCurdy’s and his family are annual campers at  the park. All the activities the park offers, keep them coming back year after year.

“Every year, every fourth of July we go camping. we’ve actually been camping for a couple of years and out of all the camp grounds we’ve been to Lake Lowndes is one of the ones we like the most.” said McCurdy.

The kids seem to love it and the parents all seem to agree that disconnecting from technology is just an added bonus.

“Just getting away the fact that our cell phones really don’t work out here.. so that’s made it a lot nicer that we don’t have to constantly keep up with the outside world and we get to relax and just enjoy family.” said Kelli Foster of Columbus.

“We try our best not to bring all the TV’s and the phones and the different devices with us. Of course with the kids they always have to have something so… but we do enjoy getting away and having a good time to ourselves.” said McCurdy.

And who needs technology when you have the local geese as entertainment?

Caladonia residents, Gary and Billie Nolands are no strangers to teh camp grounds. They told us that their favorite past-time at the park is watching the local children enjoy the outdoors.

Billie also says that we need to remember the real reason we even have this holiday,

“[It’s] for our service men and women and their families that sacrificed so that we can have the day that we have today.” said Nolands.
