Columbus City Council discusses a new purpose for Propst Park
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The Columbus City Council has discussed a new purpose for Propst Park.
During Tuesday’s meeting, the Council voted to commission the Neel-Schaffer engineering firm to conduct a feasibility study to upgrade a master plan for the park.
City leaders have been discussing several plans for modernizing Propst Park, using money from the city’s share of the tourism tax.
At a press conference today, Mayor Keith Gaskin stressed that community input will be key in deciding the direction for the changes.
He was also asked if other city parks would be included in the plan.
“So, that will continue to be an area of high interest to the city. Those are parks that we can also, as I mentioned before, look for grant money to help improve and sustain those parks, but this particular project that we’re talking about right now would be strictly Propst Park,” said Mayor Gaskin.
Public opinion sessions have not been scheduled yet, but there are expected to be multiple opportunities for input.
