VIDEO: Lowndes County Home Destroyed in Blaze

LOWNDES CO., Miss. (WCBI) —

A Lowndes County home is destroyed in a late afternoon fire.

District One volunteers responded to a house fire on Evergreen Cove, off of Highway 12 in the Northeastern corner of the county shortly after 6 this evening.

The home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

Neighbors reported that an elderly woman may have been in the home, but it was determined that she had moved, and the home was empty.

A malfunctioning hydrant slowed things down, and a tanker truck had to be called to the scene.

The fire is still under investigation.
