Lowndes County relaxing mask mandate in County buildings
LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Lowndes County is the latest to relax masking ordinances.
At today’s meeting, Lowndes County Supervisors unanimously voted to lift the mask mandate in County buildings.
Effective immediately, masks are optional for both employees and people doing business in those facilities.
Supervisors cited lower local case numbers and COVID-19 measures, such as social distancing and shields, that will remain in place.
But there was also another practical aspect.
“I think the main reason it was voted that way was enforcement. People are choosing to wear ’em. Some are choosing to wear ’em. Some aren’t. And to enforce that mandate in county buildings is somewhat of a burden. And so the board unanimously voted to make that optional, because the people have already made up their minds whether they’re going to wear them or not,” Trip Hairston, President of the Lowndes County Board of Supervisors.
At a work session following the meeting, Supervisors discussed spending options for the American Rescue Plan funds.
They also announced a November 13th Grand Opening for the Lowndes County Agri-Center.
