Report: IHL Offers Chancellor Dan Jones Contract Extension
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Individuals with knowledge of the negotiations say Mississippi’s College Board has offered a two-year contract extension to University of Mississippi Chancellor Dan Jones.
Discussions to fine-tune the agreement continued Thursday, according to the individuals, who say they were informed by people directly involved in negotiations. The individuals spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the sensitive negotiations publicly.
Under the proposal, Jones would make a public apology to trustees, who would offer the two-year extension instead of the usual four-year contract.
The 12-member board has faced a storm of opposition since deciding last week to cut ties with Jones. Trustees say they had concerns about financial management at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
More than 2,000 people rallied on Wednesday in support of Jones.
