Video: Attorney For Antwun Shumpert Family Speaks Out
TUPELO, MS (WCBI) – The family of the man shot to death by Tupelo Police Saturday night is speaking publicly for the first time. 37 year old Antwun Shumpert was killed after he fled from a traffic stop into a Lee Acres neighborhood.
Attorney Carlos Moore is representing the family and says there are numerous questions surrounding his death. Moore confirmed Shumpert was shot four times – 3 times in the chest and once in the abdomen. Moore also says there is no evidence Shumpert was armed with any type of weapon and admits there was a physical confrontatation with the Tupelo officer. Moore says the family wants to know why the police dog could not subdue Shumpert since that was part of his job. The attorney says he also questions why the officer resorted to using a weapon when he had mace, a baton and a taser at his disposal also. He is demanding the city retract a Monday statement where the shooting was called justified. Moore says he has video from a home surveillance camera that will contradict that and the shooting should not be called justified until the MBI completes its investigation.
