Union County Woman Sentenced In Deputy’s Death

NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WCBI) – The woman who left the scene of a crash that killed a Union County deputy will go to prison.

Crystil Byers, 29, was was sentenced to 12 years in prison as a habitual offender.

She pleaded guilty to culpable negligence manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.

In December 2013 Union County Deputy Clinton Frazier attempted to pull Byers over.

She pulled into a driveway and Frazier swerved to miss her vehicle, causing the crash.

Byers left the area but was later arrested.

She was ordered by the judge to serve five years probation and repay more than $8,600 in funeral expenses.
