Lowndes County Drug Busts

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (Press Release) – On Thursday May 26, 2016 Deputies with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department and Agents with the Narcotics Unit conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Swartz Drive and Mike Parra Road. After a brief investigation a search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of marijuana and cocaine. The driver, Mario Johnson, 31, of Columbus was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. Johnson was transported to the Lowndes County Detention Center where he was held until bond could be set.

On Sunday May 29, 2016 a deputy with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department conducted a traffic stop on Jess Lyons Road for speeding. After it was found that the driver had a suspended driver’s license the deputy had the driver exit the vehicle. The deputy then saw cocaine in the floorboard of the vehicle. Marijuana was also found under the driver seat. An agent with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Unit was called and responded to the scene. The driver, Billy Halbert, 31, of Columbus was arrested and charged with Speeding, driving with a suspended driver’s license, possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle, and possession of cocaine. Halbert was transported to the Lowndes County Detention Center where he was held until a bond could be set.
On Tuesday May 31, 2016 Members of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Unit and the US Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force were on Ward Road checking a residence for a wanted person when they come in contact with a female who was holding a syringe and attempting to destroy the methamphetamine in the syringe. Agents placed the female in custody and collected the remaining evidence. A young child was also on scene during the incident. Lindsey Ashley, 22, of Columbus was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, tampering with physical evidence, and child endangerment. Ashley was transported to the Lowndes County Detention Center where she will be held until a bond is set if possible.
On Saturday June 4, 2016 Deputies with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call on Stuart Drive and also the area behind Rick’s Bar on Highway 50 East. When deputies arrived they come in contact with Jamie Parker. After a brief investigation Parker was found to have methamphetamine in her possession. Jamie Parker, 29, of Reform was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine. Parker was transported to the Lowndes County Detention Center where she was held until a bond could be set.
On Monday June 6, 2016 Agents with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Unit conducted a traffic stop on Mike Parra Road. After a brief investigation one of the passengers in the vehicle was found to have methamphetamine and paraphernalia in her possession. Danielle Howard, 26, of Columbus was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine. Howard was transported to the Lowndes County Detention Center where she was held until a bond was set.
