Mississippians Continue To Enroll In The Federal Health Insurance Marketplace
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – New figures show that 104,538 Mississippi residents have enrolled in the federal health insurance marketplace.
The numbers were released Tuesday by the Department of Health and Human Services. Of Mississippians enrolled through the federal marketplace, 93 percent – or 97,220 – qualified for subsidies in the form of tax credits. The average tax credit for state residents was $353 per month.
An AP analysis found that after subsidies, Mississippi residents paid the lowest average premium, $52 a month.
Of Mississippi enrollees, 56 percent signed up for the first time, while 44 percent re-enrolled after signing up last year. Of those who re-enrolled, almost 10,000 chose a new insurance plan. About 30,000 were automatically re-enrolled without visiting the website.
More than a third of Mississippi enrollees are younger than 35.
