Video: Local WWII Vet Shares Thoughts On President’s Recent Visit To Hiroshima

PONTOTOC, Miss. (WCBI) — President Obama’s recent visit to Hiroshima, the site of the first atomic bomb attack, has stirred up emotions among the nation’s veterans.

Last week, President Obama became the first sitting U S President to visit the city, where the atomic bomb was dropped in August of 1945.

The president did not apologize for the U S dropping the bomb , but still, many people were upset at the president’s visit.

One local World War Two veteran doesn’t understand why the President made the visit.

“Frankly, I think it would have been well for him to stay away myself, I think we saved a lot of our own lives and probably a lot of Japanese lives. Got it would up and over with,” said Fred Wicker, a World War II veteran.

Wicker served as a judge for years after he returned from the European theater.

His son is Senator Roger Wicker.
