One Oktibbeha Deputy Remains on Restricted Duty, Another Takes New Job
OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Six weeks after they were involved in a fatal shooting, one Oktibbeha County sheriff’s deputy remains on desk duty and another has taken another job.
Officials with the department say Deputy Shannon Williams can’t return to full duty until the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation completes its review of the death of 33-year-old Damion Street.
The MBI is awaiting some crime lab results before presenting the case to the Oktibbeha County Grand Jury.
Deputy David Lewis has taken a job with the attorney general’s office. He’d begun interviewing for the position before the Aug. 20. shooting where the two deputies responded to a disturbance call on Cannon Road and were confronted by Street who was armed with a knife.
After being told to stop and put down the knife, deputies say he assaulted them, cutting Lewis several times on the arm despite being pepper sprayed and Tasered. Williams shot Street during the confrontation.
