Video: Students see the Hazards of Distracted Driving
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – It’s a message to young drivers. Put the phone down while driving.
Students from Heritage Academy, Columbus Christian Academy, New Hope and Caledonia learned safe driving habits Tuesday at host school Heritage.
Mississippi Department of Transportation representatives were on hand to talk with the students and give hands on demonstrations.
The primary focus was distracted driving.
“Don’t text and drive. The average text takes 4.6 seconds and at 55 miles per hour, that is a full length of a football field. And that’s a long time to have your eyes off the road.”
MDOT travels the state with this program and the simulator teaching students responsible driving techniques.
