Brookville Garden Apartment Complex could soon be sold
STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – It appears Brookville Garden Apartment Complex could soon be sold.
Starkville aldermen will have a public hearing tomorrow night to discuss buildings 6, 16, and 19.
City leaders believe those buildings pose a threat to the health and safety of people living there.
Brookville School House Road Estates LLC attempted to block the city from demolishing any buildings on the property.
That order was dismissed in federal court.
Mayor Lynn Spruill says the public hearings are a preemptive move before the apartment complex is sold.
“It’s for us to declare yet another three buildings that are not habitable, that are not fit for human habitation and to create a situation where those need to be boarded up until they can also be brought back into code. So, essentially what we’re trying to do is say you know these are not places where people should be living because they’re unsafe and until you get them brought back up to code we’re not going to allow people to live there,”
Buildings four, five, and eight were also deemed uninhabitable.
The public hearing will be held during the board of alderman’s regularly scheduled meeting tomorrow.
