COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The Mississippi University for Women will soon have a new President. Dr. Jim Borsig recently announced he’ll be moving on to become Commissioner of the Institutions of Higher Learning in Jackson.
“I’m leaving a job that I love, to serve a system that I believe in, to help advance the state of Mississippi,” says Borsig.
Dr. Jim Borsig is returning to where it all began. In 2011, Borsig was appointed MUW President by Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning. Now, he’ll become Commissioner of the I-H-L in the spring. Borsig says he’s proud of the progress MUW has made during his tenure.
“The opportunity to come here and try and help the University focus on three or four very important things: improving recruiting, improving the branding, improving the way we talk about the University, strengthen some of our academic programs. Those were done by my colleagues and I’m glad to have had a hand in helping map out what we ought to do next,” says Borsig.
With his new position as Commissioner, Borsig will continue to be involved with MUW. He’ll oversee all eight public universities in Mississippi and believes MUW will continue thrive for the next generation.
“The W has carved out some unique niches in higher education in Mississippi. I think they will continue to develop those as all of our universities evolve in the 21st century,” says Borsig.
Dr. Borsig says he’ll miss interacting with MUW students the most. He will officially start as Commissioner of the I-H-L in April.
The I-H-L has not appointed a replacement for Dr. Borsig but an announcement is expected in the coming weeks.
