Gov. Bryant Appoints New Member To Commission On Environmental Quality

GOLDEN TRIANGLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Brenda Lathan, CEcD, has recently been appointed by Governor Phil Bryant to the Commission on Environmental Quality for the State of Mississippi.

Representing the 2nd District, she will serve until 2022.

The commission, housed within the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality, is empowered to formulate policy, enforce rules and regulations, receive funding, conduct studies for resource usage, and discharge duties, responsibilities and powers as necessary.

“It is the Commission’s responsibility to protect our state’s natural resources and the environment from any dangers that would impede their current conditions,” said Lathan.

“Mississippi has an abundance of resources that are enjoyed by our citizens for a variety of activities including recreation, education, fuel, and industrial development.”

Lathan is one of seven members, who serve seven-year staggered terms.

A commissioner from each district, and two at large are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate.
