Video: Local Gospel Singer Passes Away
ABERDEEN, Miss (WCBI) – Local gospel music great Leomia Boyd passed away Monday at her home. She had been battling pancreatic cancer.
For more than forty years, Boyd ministered at churches and on stages across the United States.
Her husband, James Boyd, says, “She had the talent; had this ability to sing….what I call a powerful voice.”
In 1974, Boyd recorded her first single.
Many other recordings followed that one. And she racked up numerous awards along the way. In 1989, she was nominated for a Grammy award.
The family will hold be a musical memorial Saturday at 7:00pm at Daniel Baptist Church in Aberdeen.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 12:30 in the Aberdeen High School gymnasium.
