Car Hits Child Getting off School Bus

LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — An eight-year-old Mooreville student is recovering in a Memphis hospital after being struck by a car.

The second grader was getting off of a school bus on MS 371 near Richmond, when troopers say Brandon Hernandez of Tupelo drove past the stopped school bus, and hit the boy as he crossed the road.

The child was taken to North Mississippi Medical Center, and transferred to Lebonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis with non-life threatening injuries.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.

Charges are pending against Hernandez.
