Ex-Lawmaker Indicted for Embezzlement of $484,000
PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) – A five-count indictment alleges the bulk of money former state Sen. Tommy Robertson is accused of embezzling came from an account intended to fund a couple’s construction loan.
The indictment was announced Monday. Robertson turned himself in and posted $50,000 bond.
The Mississippi Press reports (http://bit.ly/1Bo1qUu) that according to the indictment, Robertson used his position as Singing River Federal Credit Union’s board attorney to take a total of $484,092 – with $379,592 of that total coming from funds intended for the couple’s construction loan.
The five counts of the indictment indicate Robertson took credit union funds for his own use.
If convicted of all counts, Robertson could be sentenced to a maximum of 70 years in prison.
