STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – A South Mississippi contractor is facing charges in connection with a church construction project in Starkville.
Donald Crowther, 69, of Long Beach, turned himself in to Starkville Police Thursday. He is charged with false pretense.
Police say the arrest warrant was issued for an incident that occurred at Second Baptist Church. His bond was set at $100, 000
The case stems from the stalled construction of a new sanctuary at Second Baptist Church.
The church broke ground last July for a nearly two million dollar project.
Since then, a judge has issued a restraining order against the pastor, a deacon, and Crowther after trustees questioned nearly $400, 000 dollars already paid without approval.
The order also claims the contractor has stopped work on the project and has not given any indication he plans to resume or return any of the money he has been paid.
