UPDATE: Starkville Police Charge One in Connection With Armed Robbery

UPDATE: Starkville Police says 33-year old Cedrick Young of Reed Road in Starkville is behind bars Friday night, charged in connection with this crime.
Young’s bond has not yet been set.

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Starkville police say they have one person in custody in connection with an armed robbery which left one injured.

The incident occurred at this B-Quik Chevron Station on the corner of Louisville Street and Lynn Lane. The clerk is being treated at University Medical Center in Jackson for a gun shot wound to the head that is not believed to be life threatening.

Police have collected video from the store and others along this busy stretch and they need the public’s help catching the shooter.

Starkville Police Chief Frank Nichols has been in law enforcement for more than 20 years and he says it’s one of the worst cases he’s seen because the clerk was shot. He fears it’s a sign of escalation that means stores have to be even more careful.

“A lot of the stores have gone to having a policy where if you have a hoodie on, you can’t enter the store. I suggest that, this young man did have a hoodie on. If you see anything suspicious around the stores, please call us and report it,” said Starkville Police Chief, Frank Nichols.

Starkville Discount Liquor and Wine is a neighboring business to the B-Quik store. Employees say the news it shocking to hear in their community they call home.

“It’s a relatively safe area, the people that shop here are not only customers, they’re family. We know their children, there is a great deal of trust between the store and the people of this community and to see something like happen is unsettling,” said DJ Gregory, employee at Starkville Discount Liquor and Wine.

Police got video from the liquor store as part of trying to catch the man entered the neighboring store shortly after midnight, apparently demanded money and then opened fire.

“Law enforcement officials actually came to us asking to use our cameras to see if they could get a lead on this guy that committed the crime,” said Gregory.

A customer pulled up to the B-quik as the robber was running out. When officers arrived moments later, they found the clerk wounded lying on the floor of the store. He was treated at OCH Regional Medical Center before being taken to Jackson.

Police described the gunman as a black male, approximately 5-foot-9 inches, wearing a red hoodie and black shoes.
