TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – A traffic stop leads to the arrest of a Mooreville man on narcotics charges and the Lee County sheriff says he may be involved in a burglary ring to help finance drug purchases.
26-year-old Richard Ellis Junior was stopped Tuesday for traffic violations near the Skyline Community. Sheriff Jim Johnson says officers found a felony amount of methamphetamine, digital scales, and drug paraphernalia in Ellis’ car.
The sheriff says investigators will likely be able to tie Ellis to some burglaries in the area.
“Mainly it was property taken out of people’s homes that this particular individual’s name and accomplices he ran with was involved in. A lot of those cases are still pending, that we’re working on, but I think this arrest today will possibly help on those cases.”
Bond for Ellis was set at fifty thousand dollars. He was out a fifteen thousand dollar bond for a similar offense last year.
