Ole Miss Football Ranked in Final Top 25 Polls
OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI/Ole Miss Athletics) – After going 9-4 with a berth in the “New Year’s Six” Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl and claiming several significant victories, Ole Miss was ranked No. 17 in the final Associated Press poll and No. 19 in the final Amway Coaches poll Tuesday.
The Rebels are ranked in the final postseason polls for the first time since the 2009 season. They have their highest final rankings since being 14th in the AP and 15th in the Coaches polls after the 2008 season.
Ole Miss was ranked in every version of both polls throughout the 2014 season, rising as high as No. 3 following its 23-17 win over No. 1 Alabama on Oct. 4. The Rebels were No. 4 in the initial College Football Playoff rankings.
Hugh Freeze’s squad secured victories over four teams with double-digit wins and three others that made “New Year’s Six” bowls. That includes triumphs over teams that finished No. 4 (Alabama), No. 11 (Mississippi State), No. 16 (Boise State) and No. 25 (Memphis) in the final AP poll.
The Rebels, who are expected to return nine starters on offense and seven on defense, have been featured prominently in early preseason rankings for 2015.
