LOUISVILLE and JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – An area lawmaker is in line for the number two spot in the State Senate when the Legislature convenes next week. Senator Giles Ward of Louisville appears to have enough votes to be elected President Pro-Tempore of the Senate. The President Pro-Tem presides over the Senate when the Lieutenant Governor is away, and helps round up the votes necessary to get legislation pushed through the upper house.
Ward succeeds the late Terry Brown in the position. The two-term Republican from Louisville has already declared that he will not run for reelection this year.
