[syndicaster id=’6295877′] ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) — Jakayla Dancy is a top 5 student her in class at Aberdeen High School. She’s a multi-sport athlete and is the only senior on the softball team this season.
Dancy is also trying to trying to do something that hasn’t been done in over a year and that’s win a softball game for the Lady Bulldogs.
Jakayla Dancy does it all when it comes to sports at Aberdeen High School. She plays softball, basketball, volleyball, and runs track. She also played tennis for a year and cheer leaded for two years, but managing time was important when it came to keeping her academics up.
“I made sure I got my grades done earlier in school so I know later when I have practice and stuff that I can just focus on practice instead of focusing on my school work,” said Student Athlete Jakayla Dancy.
Dancy’s journey has been a remarkable one at Aberdeen High School, but when she started out playing sports entering the seventh grade it wasn’t like it use to be as time progressed.
“It was okay. It was an easy ride, but like as I got older I realized that most people is not into sports like they use to be at Aberdeen, so I started taking like control of it,” Dancy said.
Dancy has been a leader on the court and the field and that’s what her teammate and her Head Softball and Basketball Coach like about her.
“She tries to keep the team up. When somebody’s down she tries to bring joy. She’s just a very honest person,” said Teammate Josiah Riddle.
“This is the first year I’ve had the opportunity to work with her. She can pretty much play every position that we put out here on the softball field,” said Head Softball Coach Eddie Chapman.
“She’s been an excellent leader every year I’ve had her. She’s a person that communicates well with the team and coaches, so she’s a great person to be around,” said Head Basketball Coach Lorenzo Conley. ”
Aberdeen Lady Bulldogs Softball team have won seven games over the last six seasons. They didn’t win any last season and the goal this season is to win three and that’s something to improve on,” said WCBI Sports Reporter Jonathan Flippo.
“It will show that each year we are progressing and becoming more and more better at what we do,” Dancy said.
“We’re doing the little bitty steps to eventually become that caliber ball team that I know we are capable of being and sooner later will be,” Chapman said.
