LOUISVILE, Miss. (WCBI) – Christmas is a time to spend with loved ones and this holiday one Louisville family is celebrating not only time together but a new home.
“That day I looked out there and I told my wife I was like I say ‘baby, that’s a tornado you know it’s coming straight to us’.”
It was eight months ago when Shirley Lee and his family lost everything as the April 28th tornado ripped through their home in Louisville. It was a few weeks ago when the Lees received an early Christmas present.
“He told me he was like: ‘Well, Mr. Lee, you can out your tree up at your new house.’ And, man I was so thrilled when he said that. It’s a blessing for me to be back here me and my wife and kids.”
On December 12th the Lee family was handed the keys to their new home knowing that Christmas would look a little brighter; however, Linda Lee says she was preparing her and the family to have Christmas in one of the FEMA trailers.
“I didn’t think we would but I had told my husband I said if we didn’t we will just make the best of it over here put some lights in the tree and we’ll run outside and play but I’m glad to be here.”
Since they’ve moved home, Linda says she’s enjoyed Christmas cooking the most.
“Last night he cooked the ham and he put the stuff on it so this morning I got up and finished it so we enjoy doing it… preparing it together.”
As the Lees celebrate in their new home, those who lost things in the South Mississippi storm earlier this week weighs heavy on their hearts.
“My sympathy goes out to the families of whoever was involved in that and I know how they feel to lose everything you got or whatever.”
