Scott Steps Down at Nettleton, Topps to Succeed as Head Coach

NETTLETON, Miss. (WCBI) — A Mississippi coaching legend will be replaced by one of his former stars.

Mike Scott has stepped down as head coach of the Nettleton Tigers after four seasons at the school. He will be replaced by his offensive coordinator Ken Topps, who was Scott’s quarterback at Shannon from 1999-2001. Jeff King was the first to report the move.

In four years at Nettleton, Scott was 14-30 overall and led the Tigers to the playoffs in two of those seasons.

Coach Scott is well known around Mississippi as the former head coach of the Shannon Red Raiders for 16 seasons, guiding the Raiders to the 1996 3A State Championship. He was 134-54 in his 16 years at Shannon.

A Saltillo native and a Shannon graduate, Scott also coached basketball at Shannon and spent time as Lee County’s Superintendent before returning to the sideline in 2012.
