Video: Stratton Announces Retirement From TPSD

TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – A longtime employee of an area school district who has served as teacher, coach, principal and transportation director is retiring.

This afternoon during a special meeting of the Tupelo Public School District Board, Lee Stratton announced his retirement after 30 years in the district.

As a coach, Stratton coached teams to more than 500 wins, he also served as principal at Tupelo High School and is now the district’s transportation director.

Stratton says he sees TPSD as a family and will miss students most of all.

“Teachers influenced my life, and especially my high school coach, that’s the reason I chose the profession, on the flip side of that is the students and rest of your staff that you’re around, they have a great influence on your life, so you influence each other in a great way, so it’s always good,” Stratton said.

Stratton says he plans to work in another field after he retires in June. During the meeting several personnel changes were also announced at Rankin and Lawhon Elementary schools.
Stratton’s son, Chris, is a pitcher in the San Francisco Giants organization.
