Vernon, Alabama (WCBI) – Lamar County residents open their wallets to make sure needy children a special Christmas.
The Lamar County Department of Human Resources hosted an open house Friday afternoon to show the more than 950 toys that will be given.
For 30 years D.H.R. has collected donations for “Operation Santa.”
235 children were eligible for the program, because their parents receive food stamps.
D.H.R. says the community makes the toy drive possible, and the organization is happy to make it happen.
“We’ve had a lot of success through the years. Everyone has always been so generous to give, so that we would be able to provide these toys for the children at Christmas. I think that is the biggest thing we do,” said Lamar County D.H.R. Director Martha Trentham.
Families will start picking up the toys Monday and continue through Christmas Eve.
