STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — A Starkville man is behind bars, after police say he stole more than $5,000 worth of equipment from Mississippi State University.
MSU and Starkville police officers arrested 30-year-old Matthew Dotson during a traffic stop late Tuesday night.
Dotson’s arrest comes after an MSU worker called police, saying he thought he saw someone stealing items from the school’s landscape compound.
Later that night, officers pulled Dotson over in another part of town.
During the traffic stop, MSU police chief Vance Rice tells WCBI they saw Dotson pulling a trailer with four large leaf blowers – all reportedly stolen from the university.
They then arrested him for grand larceny.
Rice says officers also served a search warrant on Dotson’s property Thursday morning, and found an ATV taken from MSU as well.
Dotson is being held in the Oktibbeha County jail.
He moved to Starkville from Savannah, Georgia about a month ago.
