Student Athletes of the Week: NFL Punt, Pass & Kick Contestants, Kaley Cox & Jaquaris Jamison
STUDENT ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Kaley Cox and Jaquaris Jamison – NFL Punt, Pass & Kick Contestants
The Punt, Pass and Kick contest is sponsored by the National Football League for children ages 6 to15. It allows them to learn the fundamentals of football without contact. Seven year-old Kaley Cox knew nothing about football until she entered the contest at Cook Elementary in Columbus.
Kaley is better than average at punting the football. She’s already won two competitions in her age group.
“So from Cook she got to go to Tupelo. She competed in Tupelo, won first place in Tupelo. So now we’re headed to New Orleans to compete this weekend,” says Kenisha Cox, Kaley’s mom.
Jaquaris Jamison is an eighth grader at B.F. Liddell Middle School in Noxubee County who’ll also compete on Sunday. He says his love of football lead him to enter the NFL Pass, Punt and Kick contest.
“I was aware at church and Rodney Wayne, he sent a letter down there and I thought I should be a part of it,” says Jamison.
Cox and Jamison will receive free entry into the Saints game and two guests tickets each. The competition will take place before the game on Sunday.
