ICC’s Phi Theta Kappa Chapter Wins Multiple Awards

MISSISSIPPI (PRESS RELEASE) – Itawamba Community College’s chapters of Phi Theta Kappa received several awards at the organization’s regional conference, Feb. 26-27, at Mississippi State University.

Awards for the Upsilon Sigma chapter (Fulton Campus) include Kate Hester of Pontotoc, Coca-Cola Silver Scholar, All-Mississippi Academic Team (first team), Order of the Golden Key;

Michaela Cooper of Mantachie, Coca-Cola Silver Scholar, All-Mississippi Academic Team (second team), Distinguished Chapter Officer;

Robin Lowe of Amory, nominated as Phi Theta Kappa Secretary Division II for the National Council of Advisors and Continued Excellence Award for Advisors; Distinguished Chapter award (ninth); Honors in Action award (seventh), Theme 7 award (second);

Heather McCormick of Fulton, Horizon Award for Advisors and Regional Advisory Board (three-year term); Five Star award; Website (second runner-up); Regional Secretary position; and Regional T-shirt Design winner.

The chapter can potentially win five International awards at PTK’s annual international convention, Apr. 7-9, in National Harbor, Md.

The Beta Tau Sigma chapter (Tupelo Campus) awards include Jenny Bowers of Tupelo and Ira Lindsay Kinard of Houston, Horizon Award for Advisors; Regional Five-Star award; and Dixie Priest of Pontotoc and Margaret Hudson of Blue Springs, All-Mississippi Academic Team (second team).

Phi Theta Kappa, headquartered in Jackson, is the largest honor society in higher education with 1,285 chapters on college campuses in all 50 of the United States, U.S. territorial possessions and eight sovereign nations.

More than 3 million students have been inducted since its founding in 1918, with approximately 134,000 students inducted annually.
