VARDAMAN, Miss, (WCBI Sports) — The Vardaman Lady Rams Basketball Team have done something that hasn’t been done in over three decades and will compete Thursday against McAdams at 1:30 pm in the Quarter-Finals of the state tournament down at Jackson State.
The Vardaman Lady Rams Basketball Team is led by five seniors this season, and four who are starters. Just a couple of weeks ago the Lady Rams defeated Hamilton to win their first division overall title since 2012, but their is more work left to be done.
“It was just another goal we accomplished. We want to win the whole entire thing, so winning the division it felt good, but it don’t feel as going to Jackson,” said Senior Point Guard Shylysses Rimmer.
“It felt good because this was what we always and we finally getting what we wanted and these are all coming true,” said Senior Shooting Guard Alaysia Madkins.
“That just gives you a lot of confidence when they get to hold a trophy up and that says they’ve accomplished something and it just really got us going,” said Head Coach Deanna Winter.
“The Vardaman Lady Rams Basketball Team have had a remarkable season so far with a twenty-three and eight overall record an a divisional title under their belt. Now they return to Jackson State to play in the state tournament for the first time since 1984 and they are looking forward to playing in the state tournament,” said WCBI Sports Reporter Jonathan Flippo.
“I’m looking forward to winning. I mean why we’re there why not win it you know. I’m just looking forward to winning and playing as a team as we been doing,” Rimmer said.
“We talked about going to state, going to state and now it’s finally here and it’s a great accomplishment, but I don’t won’t to be done. I want to go down there and win some ball games and see what happens,” Winter said.
The Vardaman Lady Rams return to action Thursday at 1:30 pm against McAdams in Jackson for the Quarter-Finals of the state tournament.
