TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Students at Milam Elementary in Tupelo celebrated two months of reading.
Milam was one of many area schools that took part in the “Be A Champion And Read” contest sponsored by the Mississippi Association for Education.
Students kept count of the number of books they read and those who read at least six books during the contest were eligible for two tickets to the Egg Bowl.
The students were encouraged to form reading teams based on MSU or Ole Miss, and organizers say it was a fun way to encourage reading.
“I hope this increases their vocabulary and I hope they learn that by reading, they can go anywhere they want to go,” said Dr. Stephanie Norwood Wayne, a Milam teacher.
Milam students were able to celebrate with music, free food and prizes.
