TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Tupelo residents are coming to the assistance of a woman who needs an expensive kidney and pancreas transplant.
A booth was set up on the parking lot of Room to Room furniture Saturday to sell hot dog lunches and dinners to raise funds for Missy Barnett, who needs the double transplant which doctors say is critical to her survival. Her husband Ken Barnett says, while insurance will cover the actual transplant procedures, $500,000 will be needed for his wife’s follow up care.
“The reason for that is insurance doesn’t pay for everything so you have alot of out of pocket costs. And over the years we’re estimating those costs to be in that range. So any fundraiser we do will help offset some of the living expenses and medical costs of her treatment.”
Barnett says, the fundraising effort is being managed by the National Foundation for Transplants which is equippled to assistance individuals do fundraisers.
