COLUMBUS, Miss. / WASHINGTON D.C. (WCBI) – Senator Thad Cochran is worried about a proposal to reduce the number of aircraft the U.S. Army will buy next fiscal year.
If approved, the longtime U.S. Senator says the request could impact Lakota helicopters made in Lowndes County.
In the Army’s budget request there’s a 38% reduction in aircraft procurement.
Cochran says the National Commission on the Future of the Army recommends more aircraft for the Army.
The Mississippi Senator says the lower numbers would affect combat, training, and support aircraft that are already deployed.
President Obama’s budget recommendation for Army aircraft is at 3.6 billion dollars. That’s a 2.3 billion reduction.
