Video: Bridge Repairs in Neshoba County Could Take a Year

PHILADELPHIA, Miss. (AP) — Philadelphia officials are faced with a $2.1 million price tag to replace an 80-year-old bridge on old Mississippi Highway 15 that has been closed because of rotting wooden support beams and chipping concrete.

A local newspaper reports the old bridge was replaced by a newer parallel four-lane roadway in recent years. However, state transportation officials say the bridge, located at Williamsville, had been carrying about 375 vehicles a day when it was closed in October.

County Engineer Marty Crowder says a new bridge will have to 350 feet long and can be built in the same location as the old one, saving money and reducing construction time.

He says construction could take nine months to a year.

City officials have not decided how to pay for it.
