Tupelo SWAT Team Responds to Call Thursday Night

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – There were some tense moments for Tupelo police Thursday evening.

It was around 7:00 PM when 9 1 1 received a call that a man with a gun was holding a woman hostage in a house on Terry Street.

Police found out the suspect’s girlfriend or wife was in the house voluntarily, trying to calm him down.

Negotiators with the SWAT team were called in, and within an hour they had talked the suspect into giving himself up.

The man, whose identity is not being released, is being held for observation. No one was hurt in the incident.
