Gov. Phil Bryant Appoints Corley Banking Commissioner
JACKSON, Miss. (Press Release) — Gov. Phil Bryant has appointed Charlotte Corley of Madison, Miss., as banking commissioner.
As Banking Commissioner, Corley will be responsible for oversight of financial institutions chartered under state authority and will ensure that those institutions comply with Mississippi’s banking laws and regulations.
“I am pleased that Corley has accepted this appointment,” Gov. Bryant said. “Her almost 30 years of experience at the Department of Banking and Consumer Finance (DBCF) will serve her well in this position. I know she’ll maintain the high standards of the department and ensure our banking institutions operate properly within the state’s laws.”
Corley has previously served as the DBCF Deputy Commissioner where she directed all activities of the DBCF and worked in coordination with federal agencies in supervision and regulation of Mississippi’s licensed and chartered institutions. She also successfully reorganized the banking division of DBCF.
“I want to express my gratitude to Governor Bryant for his confidence in my ability to lead the Department of Banking and Consumer Finance as Commissioner,” Corley said. “DBCF is accredited by the Conference of State Bank Supervisors and is ranked among the best in the country. This ranking is a direct reflection on our excellent staff. I am truly honored by this appointment and look forward to continuing my work with the agency and serving the State of Mississippi.”
Prior to becoming Deputy Commissioner, Corley was the Director of the banking division of DBCF for 13 years. During this time she oversaw $47 billion in regulated assets and led the division during recession and financial crisis.
Corley holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Mississippi State University, and is a graduate of the School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University and the American Bankers Association National Graduate Trust School at Northwestern University.
Corley is married to Aubrey Corley and they have three children.
Her appointment must be confirmed by the Senate.
