TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI SPORTS) — Claire Golding is the salutatorian of her class and apart of many academic honor clubs with a 4.0 grade point average. She’s also become the first person to do something that has never been done in the school’s history.

Claire Golding is a two sport athlete at Tupelo Christian Preparatory High School. She’s plays Point and Shooting Guard on the basketball team and Goal Keeper on the soccer team. Golding’s basketball team has been up and down this season, but she feels confident heading into the post-season.

“I’m pretty proud of what we’ve accomplished so far this year. We’ve let a couple of wins slip through our fingers, so we don’t have the record I think we should have, but that won’t really effect going into division tournament,” said Student Athlete Claire Golding.

Golding has been remarkable on the court this season averaging almost thirty points per game and her Head Coach Grant Smallwood and Teammate Clara Sanders have seen that leadership that she brings to the team.

“Claire brings everything to this team. She’s kind of the backbone of what you want to call this team. She’s who our teammates look to even off the coaching staff who looks to help out. She’s just kind of the I guess the thermostat to our team,” said Head Coach Grant Smallwood.

“To see how far she’s come has been an inspiration to all of us, like I mean to me even. To all of us as a team I think that it makes us want to do better. To see how far she’s come and what she brings to the team makes us all better,” said Teammate Clara Sanders.

“Clarie Golding has done something that nobody’s ever done here at T-C-P-S High School and she’s become the first person to score two thousand career points and she said it was truly an achievement to her,” said WCBI’s Jonathan Flippo.

“I just saw someone achieve that goal and I just made a mental note you know that’s what I want to do. I want to not for myself, but not only myself, but for the school and just be that first one to set that milestone,” Golding said.

Golding will be attending Mississippi College next year to major in Kinesiology and play soccer, but following graduation she wants her legacy to be remembered at T-C-P-S.

“I just want to be known as someone that came on the court and forgot everything except for the game of basketball and just came and played for my teammates and for this school,” Golding said.
