OXFORD, Miss. Hundreds in the Oxford community ate soup, water and bread Tuesday in a fight against hunger.
The annual Empty Bowls event was held at the Oxford-University United Methodist Church as a fundraiser for the Oxford food bank, The Pantry.
Attendees were encouraged to eat from the bowls provided by the Ole Miss Mud Daubers ceramics club and other area artists. The group made about 600 of the nearly 1,000 bowls created for the event.
About 21 restaurants and individuals provided the soups, which ranged from chicken and dumplings to she-crab bisque. In past years, the event has raised up to $15,000.00 for The Pantry.
