Video: Apartment Complex Rent Checks Stolen

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Thieves are targeting rent checks at several Columbus apartment complexes.

Interim Columbus Police Chief Fred Shelton says the Lehmberg Cove apartment complex is one of several that have been hit.

Shelton says thieves are going to the business office then using a stick and adhesive to grab rent checks from the dropbox.

Chateaux Holly Hills and Rivergate Apartments were also hit.

Shelton says there were different suspects at each location.

One check turned up in Hoover, Alabama.

Shelton advises renters to check with office workers to make sure they received the payment or only drop it off during business hours.
