TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Teachers and administrators from across the state are learning how to better reach special education students.
The annual conference for the Mississippi Council for Exceptional Children is taking place at Tupelo’s Bancorpsouth Arena.
One session was taught by Plantersville Middle School Assistant Principal Lindsay Brett, who uses a motivational character known as “Gladys Gladstone” to talk to students about a wide range of issues, through short video clips.
“Videos are fun, and it’s fun when you get to play the character that’s always learning something because we all could learn something, but especially if you have somebody like Gladys learning it, it’s a little bit easier to swallow, right,” said Gladstone.
Brett, or “Gladys” gave educators tips on how to make videos compelling and fun for students and adults to watch. More than 300 educators are taking part in the MCEC conference. It wraps up Wednesday afternoon.
