Louisville, Mississippi (WCBI) – More than 50 Louisville residents listened to plans about a proposed housing development at a public hearing Monday night.

Hudson Place Development wants to build 35 houses in a single-family subdivision to be built at Jernigan Avenue and Hill Street, using tax credits. Availability would be based on income. Those who make between $20,000 and $42,000 would be eligible.

The land is owned by a private developer and is already zoned for a housing development.

Residents did have concerns about a nearby pond flooding, traffic, and how to keep kids out of the street.

Mayor Will Hill says the new three to four bedroom homes could keep people from moving out of the city.

“I do think it’s a great opportunity to have housing and have it in an order of speed because that’s what we want to do, we want to try to achieve adequate number of housing in a short period of time so that we do not lose our citizens,” said Hill.

The developer hopes to complete the project by April 28, 2015, the one-year anniversary of the deadly tornado that hit Louisville.
