CALEDONIA, Miss. (WCBI) — It’s the 11th annual Caledonia Days Festival this weekend, and there is sure to be something for all ages at the Ola J. Pickett Park.
From tasty treats to unique craft vendors, the festival always attracts big crowds.
Fried pies, world famous BBQ and hundreds of vendors are just a few of the sights to see for the Caledonia Days Festival.
It’s been around for 11 years and brings in an even bigger crowd each time.
“It’s a great place, of course, and you can see that it’s all family oriented. This is going to be the best one and next year will be better than this one,” said Caledonia Mayor, Bill Lawrence.
Some people come to the fest to make new friends, while others renew old friendships….which is a highlight for many.
“Everybody around this area comes to hangout with each other, even the people you don’t know, you meet new people out here, have a good time with them,” said Caledonia resident Logan Suggs.
One thing that is always a hit is the food… with more than 50 food vendors on hand for the event.
A spot popular for visitors is Judy’s Fried Pies.
Judy Pounders makes these pies only once a year for the festival, so they’re always in high demand.
“Since Caledonia Days began, I started them in the classroom and they seem to be a big hit out here. So everybody comes looking for them,” said Pounders.
This year, Judy has prepared nearly 1,500 fried pies in 5 different flavors, all made from locally grown fruit.
The Caledonia native looks forward to this weekend each year, when she can give back to her community.
“I love my hometown. I love Caledonia. I’ve taught at Caledonia Elementary for 25 years and when we started doing this, it meant a lot to me cause I am just a hometown girl,” said Pounders.
Preparations for next year’s Caledonia Days will begin soon.
Other activities featured at the festival are classic car and antique tractor shows, a hay ride, and a pet parade.
