MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Republican Lt. Gov. Kay Ivey is seeking a second term Nov. 4 against former Democratic state Rep. James Fields.
Ivey has a bigger campaign fund and a long list of endorsements from business groups. But Fields says he’s hopeful of pulling off an upset. He says he did that in 2008, when few thought an African-American Democratic could win in the heavily white Republican city of Cullman. But Fields got 60 percent of the vote in a special election.
Ivey says voters have shown they like what Republicans have done since taking control of state government in the 2010 election. She says the GOP majority has reduced the size of state government, balanced state budgets and not raised taxes.
Ivey and Fields face off in the general election Nov. 4.
