TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – The family of Jack Reed Senior is thanking everyone for calls, prayers and encouraging words as the city prepares for a funeral.
Reed passed away Wednesday at the age of 91. He was surrounded by family members at his home.
His son, former Tupelo Mayor Jack Reed Jr., has been busy making preparations for the visitation and service at First United Methodist Church, but took time to talk about his Dad.
Jack Reed Jr., says his Dad set a great example of a family man, who loved his wife and cherished time with his kids.
“Some of my earliest memories are getting down on the living room floor and him teaching me how to collegiate wrestle, you know, just getting on the floor and wrestling with him. Teaching us how to swim, getting on his back and letting us do the breaststroke down the pool and we would kind of ride him like a whale or something, just those kind of memories children have of their father growing up, and then he was very supportive of all of us when we were in school and our activities, football games, dance recitals, all of those things, read to us, loved to read, loved to read out loud,” said Reed.
Reed says his Dad encouraged his children to be involved in the community and to treat everyone fairly.
