Student Athletes of the Week: East Webster High School Softball
MABEN, Miss. (WCBI) – East Webster High School has an awesome foursome making a name for themselves in softball. Autumn Frost, Kendall Wilkinson, Mamie Hollenhead and Kandler Flora are now seniors but they’ve been playing ball together since they were just little kids.
“We’ve playing probably since we were about four or five years old in T-ball. I guess just us knowing each other and know how each of us plays, we know how work well with each other. We know our strengths and weaknesses,” says Autumn Frost, who plays Left Center Field.
“All four lead the team, push us, and have a will to win” says Softball Coach Lee Barryhill.
The Lady Wolverines had a record of 18 and 3 last year and were #1 in their division. Coach Lee Barryhill says the entire team knocks the ball out of the park even in the classroom.
“Academically, I know last year we had an overall 3.64 gpa as a team. We got the same group back so I’m expecting or hoping that much or even more. So very proud of them on academics,” says Barryhill.
Though this is the final year for this group of seniors, they remain focused on winning games.
“Our main thing this year is we’re just going to try and hit base hits, play one inning at a time and not worry about the outcome. Just play the game,” says Frost.
The Wolverines will host Puckett High School in a best-of-three games, playoff series this Thursday starting at 5pm.
