STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – The chill in the air did not stop Oktibbeha County residents from taking to the streets to honor Martin Luther King.
One of the oldest marches and rallies took place in Starkville Monday afternoon. Those taking part say the lessons of Doctor King go far beyond his original intent.
They say he wanted civil rights for Blacks but now 50 years later citizens both black and white can look at his teachings and learn just how to be civil – period.
“What we forget is change has to start within ourself first in order for us to accomplish anything, to do anything to change, to come together as one body.”
Speakers say one of the biggest challenges the country faces now is that everybody wants to put a label on others when the only label that should really matter is being called a human.
