TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Applications are being taken for a program that trains and equips people to better promote tourism.
The fourth class for the Tupelo Convention and Visitors Bureau’s “Tourism Leadership Program” will soon be underway.
The program is open to anyone working in the hospitality industry and it educates people about all aspects of tourism in Tupelo.
It has helped participants better understand tourism offerings throughout Tupelo and the region.
“We have seen a lot of hoteliers, a lot of restaurants, attractions, event planners, but we have also had art galleries and we have even heard from convenience stores that people at convenience stores come in contact with visitors that they have some interest in equipping their front line employees with some of this knowledge,” said Neal McCoy, president of the Tupelo Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The six month program runs December through May and requires class members to meet one day a month. So far 43 people have graduated from the Tourism Leadership Program. For information on the program go to www.tupelo.net
